What to look for when choosing a fire pit

By Hotsy Store March 05, 2022

A fire pit is an essential part of any backyard. Sitting around a fire on the beach, in my backyard, while on vacation, etc., has provided me with some of my favorite memories. Lounging around a fire pit with family and friends is such a relaxing experience. Fire pits can be used at any time of year, but they're especially lovely during the holidays.

When designing your backyard, you should have a focal point. This makes the space feel more complete and usually makes it feel larger. The fire pit is a great focal point for any outdoor space!

A fire is also a bit more pleasant than huddled around a patio heater. Fire pits are your best choice for aesthetics and enjoying your time using whatever form of heating you choose. The feeling of hanging out near a fire is unbeatable.

Choosing a spot for your fire pit is all about location, and there are a few things to consider. In order to have plenty of room for the seating and for the fire pit, you need a wide open space. It's best to place this area far from bushes and low branches. You would like to be able to build a decent fire without having to worry about sparks and embers landing on shrubs or trees. Be sure the location you choose is not too windy. Again, you must be aware of sparks and embers.

Depending on your needs and style of backyard, you'll be able to find fire pits in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs. However, narrowing down your options and choosing the best one can be challenging. A good place to start is to identify a fire pit that coordinates with your existing backyard design in style, color, shape or material.

Fire pits come in a variety of materials, including stone, metal, concrete or a mixture of multiple materials. Choose a material that suits your taste, coordinates with the design of your backyard and holds up well to stains and frequent use.
